Overview

Long island Site 3A is located in a highly urban landscape, positioned in the sub basin of the Chattahoochee watershed. It is in direct vicinity of several large apartment complexes, surrounded by both a residential and commercial presence. Long Island Site 3A is also in close proximity to the heavily used Interstate 285 as well as the well traveled Roswell Road. The monitoring of the Long Island site occurred between June 12th 2012 and June 26th 2012 on three separate occasions. Weather at the site was predominately sunny with exception of the 12th which saw the tail end of a rain storm. The last week of data collection saw record temperature highs in Sandy Springs. The fact that this area is located in a very urban area is abundantly clear, with the large amounts of trash and items better suited for a dump.

Land Uses/Activities and Impervious Cover

External disturbances to the stream area of site 3A can easily be identified. The creek is interrupted by the presence of a large bridge and the debris left from former construction projects. Large rock debris is scattered beneath the bridge disrupting the landscape significantly, the large quantity of trash from the residential area is also very evident. There is a ample correlation between the rain of the first day and the high levels of coliform found in the watershed compared to the end of the data collection that strongly indicates the pollution of the watershed through non point source pollution from runoff.
